Salomo David of the Mutual Etoilé team is the 2001 Rössing Namibia Marathon Champion, running the 42.2km in 2:28:29. Salomon, who was running on the heels of the 1999 champion, Luketz Swartbooi, moved into first place when Luketz withdrew from the race 3km from the finish line with a hamstring injury. In the second place was Robert Kaxaxuena (2:35:04) with Isaskar Boois (2:35:50) in the third place.

The first lady over the line in the marathon was Sieglinde Gontes from the Mutual Etoilé team in 3:18:37. Some minutes after her was Laurensia Elago (3:41:54) in second place and Sanet Calitz of the Windhoek Harriers team in third place with 3:58:18.

First in the 10km race was Ruben Indongo (Welwitchia 77) in a time of 31:19 while Beate Naigambo of the same team was the first lady over the line in 37:37.

Rössing's General Manager Operations, David Salisbury, said at the prize-giving event: "Rössing is committed to continue our sponsorship of this important event on the Namibian athletics calendar. Just as Rössing is a supplier of energy to the world, we would like our continued sponsorship of this important event to allow the world to witness the energy of long distance running in Namibia."

The Rössing sponsored event organised by the Swakop Striders for the 10th year was again very popular with 61 runners in the 42.2km marathon and 58 runners in the 10km race. The Windhoek Harriers club had 31 entrants in the two events with Swakop Striders 26 and Mutual Etoilé 21. Other clubs participating were the NDF and Hidengwa Sport. Six of the runners came from the USA, South Africa and Swaziland.

The weather was very kind to the runners with overcast conditions and very little wind but it became hot and windy toward the end of the marathon which was set off from the SFC Sport Club out onto the Henties Bay road and back.
