Record-breaking turnout as 4 500 runners register for Rössing Marathon 2026

The Rössing National Marathon has recorded a historic milestone of 4 500 registered runners across the 10 km, 21.1 km, and 42.2 km races, marking one of the largest turnouts in the event’s history, scheduled to take place on 7 March in Swakopmund.

This year’s marathon marks the 35th consecutive year of sponsorship by Rössing Uranium, to the Swakop Striders Running Club, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to health, wellness, and community development in Namibia.

Rössing Uranium continues to regard the marathon as one of its flagship Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives, contributing to both sport development and community wellbeing. Rössing Uranium’s Corporate Communication manager, Daylight Ekandjo, said the company is proud to support an event that continues to grow in participation and impact.

“The Rössing National Marathon remains one of our most important CSI initiatives each year. In 2026, Rössing Uranium will sponsor over N$350,000 towards hosting the event and prize monies. In addition, all race registration fees will be donated to the Swakop Striders to support its ongoing community and development programmes,” Ekandjo said.

“For us, this marathon is about more than sport, it is about investing in people, promoting wellness, and strengthening community partnerships that create lasting value.”

In addition to the competitive races, the event will also feature a 5 km Fun Walk, aimed at encouraging broader community participation in the marathon festivities.

Proceeds from the Fun Walk will be donated to the Cancer Association of Namibia, reinforcing the event’s strong charitable component and commitment to supporting meaningful social causes. For more than three decades, the Rössing National Marathon has brought together athletes, families, and community members from across Namibia and beyond, promoting healthy living, social cohesion, and community upliftment.

The event will once again bring together runners from across Namibia and beyond.
